Mr. Dead

Mr. Dead is an twist on the traditional zombie game: The player controls a zombie, whose wife is missing, and he sets out to find her. Its rumored that the humans have kidnapped her, and are holding her for unknown reason. The game attempts to test your geography  skills, as well as character. Mr. Dead was written by Karan Anand for Prof. Perlin’s Fall 2009 graduate games course. This is a sketch of a game btw. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

  1. I like the original premise of the game (there’s not a lot of convention you need to follow in the “zombie looking for kidnapped wife” plot) and I hope you find ways to use it creatively. I also happen to have a soft spot for Carmen Sandiego and I was sad to see this only had a few screens finished already.

With nothing yet happening in the story it’s hard to say, but I do hope the story unfolds with every few scenes, and maybe turns in different ways from where it starts (like what if the wife chose to leave, or what if she got in trouble because of some sort of double (undead) life?). If it’s just answering trivia to get to a “win state” then the story is interchangeable with any quest.

Looking forward to more of this!

  2. No sound? why not? I like the idea of mixing in trivia with the game play. Is it possible for the trivia to be less random? More like a riddle your asked to solve or asked about something relevant to the scene.

When I clicked Start the second time, I did not start at the complete beginning. Is this on purpose?

  3. Interesting concept. It’s good that you have mixed some trivia to get ahead in the game. Not sure how the game will pan out since all options lead to the same ending so far..maybe you should let players select a couple of incorrect answers and then be able to correct themselves with smart choices? Since you are using trivia you can design the game play so that at any given point if the player has answered x% of the questions correctly, then they are on the right track. So even if they answer the first 2 questions incorrectly but the next 5 correctly they have a chance to win.
