Magnets

Use the smaller magnets to guide the large magnet to the target. The small magnets will individually repel the large magnets but you need to position them so that the repelling forces cause the larger magnet to move in the direction of the target. Magnet was written by Rachit Parikh for Professor Perlin’s fall 2009 graduate games course.

  1. I like the idea behind this – using magnets cooperatively. I can definitely see how this would be great for 2 players at the same computer so they could discuss strategy or say what they’re going to do next.

I didn’t feel like the magnets moved how I expected, though. I read the instructions a few times, and ended up just sort of poking the large magnet with the small ones, occasionally getting the big magnet to loop around a small one and get close to the target. It seems like the interaction of the game could use some tweaking to get the idea across.

Also, the sound was harsh. It did make me want to finish the game quickly, though, so in that way it served as a motivator :) I think it was supposed to be an electricity sound or something, so you might try something less scratchy, and play it every 5-10 seconds instead of in a loop.
